Our Small Business

John Box November 28, 2020

We’re a small business. A literal mom-and-pop shop. A partner-to-partner business. A family business.

So, let us take a moment to pull back the curtain, to show you the small-but-mighty-and-dreaming nature of what we do, to wear our grateful hearts on our sleeves, to thank you for making all of this possible — the dreams, the joys, the growth.

We are Sarah & JP, co-founders of this dream, parents of young twins who inspired the vision for this little company: to capture the adventurous spirit of childhood through the natural goodness of merino wool. Together, we touch every aspect of Chasing Windmills.

When you email us, your note goes directly to the co-founders. There is no customer service center. It’s just us, always us, always grateful and eager to hear from those people who let us be a small part of their grand journeys in life.

When you see the colors of each windmill and each hue of merino fabric, you are the seeing the world through Sarah’s eyes. JP is colorblind! Thankfully, Sarah is not ;) But colorblind or not, we are drawn to colors that evoke a sense of warmth and earthy calm.

When you read our Instagram feed or our blog, you are reading our own words. We use these forums to welcome you into our hearts, to share our vision, to join a community of intentional seekers.

When you place an order, JP packs up each one individually from our basement warehouse. We recognize our customers’ names. We smile and high five when we see repeat supporters showing up for us time and time again, and when new ones find their way to us.

When you tell us that your kids don’t want to change out of our merino long johns, or that our merino has accompanied your family on many of your happiest adventures, or that your little one sleeps more deeply and comfortably in our merino, please know: WE. ARE. GRATEFUL.

Because, for us, everything in this business is personal. Our own kids wear Chasing Windmills every single day and night (and let’s be honest, so does Sarah now with our women’s collection!). We are constantly product-testing, product-dreaming, product-creating. We probably wake up and fall asleep each night thinking about merino more than we should. We care deeply for our customers and believe wholeheartedly in our products.

When you work from home and are the marketer, the fulfillment center, the accountant, the bookkeeper, the content creator, the social media manager, the photographer (when herstudio isn’t shooting our short johns for us in sunny LA!), the customer service rep, the product developer (but thankfully we DO have an amazing production team in North Carolina that cuts and sews all of our merino goodness- you can read more about them here), the color picker-outer, and the dreamer -- you never really “clock out” from the workplace.

But, for us, it is all worth it. We are some lucky ones. We are, quite literally, living our dream. A dream that started out as an idea in between double midnight feedings, soul searching, and life in the corporate world. A dream that we longed to share with our children — so that they would see their parents pursuing something worthy of chasing. So that they would know it’s possible to live your days consistent with your ideals -- cultivating respect for the earth, its people, and the simple joys of this life.

And this dream continues to exist in thanks to you. You have welcomed our little brand into your hearts and homes. You have shared your family’s journey with us. You have supported us, inspired us, and believed in the value of Chasing Windmills.

From the bottom of our hearts, this small business is grateful for you.

EXPLORE . DREAM. DISCOVER

This is our place to connect. To share our love for merino wool. To explore the adventures of childhood. To celebrate the joys of parenthood.

This is our place to thank you. You have invited us into your home. We are forever grateful.

This is our journey, together.

SEE WHAT WE'RE UP TO...

Thankful for all the children. They are our light shiners, our joy makers, our hope deliverers. Always showing us how to spread kindness, love deeply, and make beauty in this world together. May we learn from their innocence, and carry their wisdom w
A closer look at our new merino wool long johns - we’ll have 4 new ribbed solids coming your way August 22! Say hello to the newest color mulberry, and super soft as ever. Will make the transition from summer that much comfier 😊
Tip for the novice family of campers- always do a trial test/set up of your gear before you’re out in the wild. This way you’ll avoid puncturing a giant hole in your tent roof 🤦‍♀️ and your kids will only be crying because of mama&rs
I’ll admit I was a bit cranky when I woke up for our shoot (and as the photographer, crankiness is not the best state to be in!). Letting little things bother me and consume my thoughts. But little by little as this shoot started to come togeth
