You never know when a seemingly insignificant moment will turn into a significant one — this is the story of JP’s orange t-shirt. It was a casual afternoon at REI when I happened to run my hand past this orange t-shirt on the rack, and was amazed by its super softness.
It was the first time we had discovered the wonderful qualities of merino wool, and it quickly became his go-to wardrobe staple. At the time, he was still a corporate lawyer and often felt miscast in his daily life, Monday through Friday. Relief and comfort came to him on the weekend when he traded in his suit and tie for his orange merino tee.
The tee became symbolic in a way for what he longed for — adventure, exploration, and a way to live out his values and dreams. Fast forward to 2015, and the launch of Chasing Windmills gave us a path to do just that. Though his tee has become threadbare from memories made at home, with our children, and out in the wild, it’s still a part of this journey.
He wears it on all of our launch days in our basement warehouse -- bringing a smile to our faces and maybe some luck too, thinking about this journey we have traveled. It will always have an honored place in his wardrobe.
